Bear/Bunny Toy!

Browsing the internet the other day, I found http://funkyfriendsfactory.com. They had a free bear pattern for signing up for the newsletter, and so I tried it out! It was sooo easy, and obviously it was pretty easily adapted into a bunny.  The other patterns are about $10 each, and so I want to try them out when ever we have a little extra cash. I love the ideas of being able to make toys for my kids.

So I guess I'm practicing for my future etsy shop that I'd like to have :) If anyone can recommend any books on instructions on creating your own soft toy patterns, I'd love to see it!

Today

Yesterday...

I did seven loads of laundry, made 3 taggy blankets, re-arranged the living room, cooked dinner, did dishes, took care of a fussy baby all day...all on about five hours of sleep because Adrian was up six times the night before. Thank you, not-yet-broken-through-teeth.

But today,

I've done my regular morning motherly duties, and now, since Adrian has been sleeping for two hours (thank you, Hylands Teething Tablets), I have been sitting. On the couch. The whole time.

*sigh*

I'm sick (sniffs).

I just had to blog about this moment because I feel bad....but I really am sick and just need to sit.

Dreaming for Someone Else

I've always been a dreamer.

I've dreamed for everything. As a little girl, I used to draw out my future house (something my current house looks nothing like, by the way), I would dream of my future dog (I'm no longer a dog person), my future pet's names (I wanted a bunny named Bambi), and of course, I dreamed of and wrote to my future spouse. While all those dreams may or may not come true, now I have more than myself to dream for: my son.

It's hard to imagine that my sweet little baby will have to go through hard times in life.
Someone will tell him a lie.
Someone will break his heart.
Someone will be his hero.
Someone will let him down.
Someone will make him happy.
Someone will make him fall in love.
Someone will want him to be someone better than he already is.
Hopefully, someone will mirror Jesus to him so he'll grow to be a godly man.

When I think about this, it makes me want to scoop him up and cuddle and protect him forever. Isn't it so precious to know that someone else is holding his heart in His hands? Someone else loves him soooo much more than this mama ever could. It's hard for me to surrender that control, honestly. At the same time, it helps me breathe!

I don't want bad things to happen to Adrian, but of course (as Nick and I are currently learning) bad things help build character, and God always, always uses bad things to bring us closer to Him.

I'm so thankful for that today.

Welcome Fall!

It's finally my favorite season of all!

WELCOME FALL!

To celebrate (and just because he's cute) I did a photoshoot of Adrian. Here are some of my favorites. He is going to be a sea otter (because the costume was $4.99) for trick or treating at church, and I wanted him to have pictures that are better than the ones on the day of.

Hope you all have a wonderful day welcoming in crisp, cozy weather!

Adrian is 6 months old!!

Sunday, Adrian turned 6 months old.  Half a year already! I can't believe it. Like last month (for mostly my own purposes), I put the milestones he's reached = here they are again for this month!
  • Baby can now hold his head steady. - Yes, Adrian has been able to do this for months now!
  • He can hold and drink from a cup or bottle. He loves his sippy cup and now has complete control of his bottle as well.
  • He rolls both ways. He rolls all over the place! He's so funny and so fast. He will be crawling any day now!
  • Baby is able to transfer objects from hand to hand. He seems so proud of the control he has over his hands now. He definitely has very good control of them.
  • He may be able to "stand" (support weight on his legs) when you hold him on your lap. Anyone who knows Adrian knows this is his favorite thing! He insists on standing, and can stand by himself now when supported against something.
  • Can probably sit up for a short period of time, supporting himself with his hands. He can completely sit up unsupported for long periods of time.
  • Baby may begin to push up on his hands and knees or drag himself forward; a few kids perfect the art of crawling this month. He's not crawling, but definitely trying!
  • He can feed himself large finger foods (like a baby biscuit). Yes he loves his baby mum mums!
  • Baby recognizes the difference between his parents and others; stranger anxiety may begin. Yes, although he hasn't met a stranger yet :) He gets very excited when either Nick or I walk into the room.
  • He mimics facial expression and sounds. Oh my goodness we have had so much fun with this! He is currently fascinated with the clicking sounds we can make with our tongues.
  • Turns his head toward a voice or a sound. Yes
  • Recognizes and responds to his own name. Yes
  • Is able to participate in a game of peekaboo. Yes
  • Begins to babble. Yes he talks, laughs, and screams and squeals all the time!
He can also pull up on things to a certain extent and LOVES dancing. He is so funny!

Here's a video of him (and daddy) being silly:

    Welcome Baby Levi Daniel!

This past week my first biological nephew was born! Sweet little Levi was welcomed into the world on September 13th.  Kayla had a bit of an exhausting labor, but she did great and both she and the baby are healthy!  Ben is one very proud daddy and they're loving being a family of THREE!

Levi was 7lbs 9oz and 20.5 inches long. He has blonde hair and it looks like he'll have light colored eyes!

It was fun to see the whole family and my siblings liked seeing Adrian since they haven't seen him since he was a week old. He looooved all the constant attention.  Of course, Nick and I enjoyed showing him off!

We're looking forward to the boys growing up close friends. Thankful for this new little blessing and for our growing family!

    Hair!

Well we are currently in GA visiting family since my PRECIOUS baby nephew was born on Tuesday - I will post about that when I get home and can edit some of these very cute pictures I have.

In other news, the wonderful Vanessa Harmon cut my hair today. She did a great job and it looks awesome after so much of it has fallen out this summer due to PP shedding! It's really easy too, and Nick loves it. I may have found the perfect mama haircut for me!

Anyways, that's all for now. Will update later this week with pics of these two most precious baby boys in my life!

    Remembering September 11

For most people, middle school is a blur highlighted by a few good or bad memories. It's the same way for me, but I remember September 11, 2001 very clearly.

I was 13 years old, sitting in homeroom before Biology in the very front row. My assistant was going over the announcements for the day. Suddenly, our principal called an assembly, and the entire school filed into the hallways and the gym to hear what she had to say.

She was sobbing uncontrollably into the mic. I remember she tried to explain something, followed by a long tearful prayer. I had no clue what had just happened or what was going on.

After the assembly, we hurried back into our classroom where our middle-school minds tried to solve the terrorist problem. My best friend at the time grabbed my shoulders, panicking saying "we're next! Atlanta is next! We're the next big city"!

I don't think we had serious classes for the rest of the day. I remember we gathered around 6" TVs watching the footage over and over. I had gone to NYC the year before and had the opportunity to tour one of the towers as our friend had an office on the 86th floor. I still remember her huge office and giant windows that overlooked the city, and the way the building swayed a little in the wind. Thankfully, that friend was not at work on 9/11.

Nick had just finished boot camp when they were given the news of the attacks. He was just turning his rifle in that morning. His parents had traveled down to see his graduation ceremony, but they were not allowed in the gate, and his ceremony was cut short. I am thankful for his service as well as the many friends we have that are serving overseas currently.

Like the Kennedy Assassination in the previous generation, we will never forget the day of September 11th.

    Where were you?

Romans 8:28-39And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered."
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

    We're growing up!

Adrian has been so funny lately I just have to share!

He has started playing copycat all day long. What facial expressions I make, he tries to copy. He started a "game" where he'll scream at the top of his lungs, then I'll scream, then he'll scream, then I'll scream....and on and on for sometimes 30 minutes or so. It's exhausting, but I figure he's learning how to communicate! He will also copy me drumming on things: I drum, he drums, etc.

Since the weather is getting cooler, A and I have been spending a lot of time on the porch. He loves being on the porch, but now we can spend quite a bit of time out there since the weather has been so nice. I always bring him outside around 5pm since we live next to a semi-busy road and he loves watching the cars and trucks go by. I let him bounce in the bouncy horse we got him and he has finally figured how to actually jump in it where before he would kind of just sway and sit.

Watching the cars and trucks this morning.

Mr. Moosie is always Adrian's right-hand "man".

*sigh* morning horsie rides are so exhausting!
Nick and I have been laughing a lot at the little dance Adrian does when he's really excited when riding his horsie. It really looks like he's galloping! I hope you think it's funny too!

    Have a wonderful day, everybody!

    Beautiful Autumn

So, today I'm very excited about crisp, cooler weather. I love love love fall! Unfortunately, it's tainted by halloween, but everything else I just love.

Hoodies, crisp weather, warm hugs, mugs of coffee and apple cider, apples, candles, and bliss.

    Yes, I love it!

I can't wait to take Adrian to pumpkin patches, apple orchards, and petting zoos! So many sweet memories :)

Here's some inspirational fall photos I found on Pinterest for you to enjoy!

What's your favorite thing about fall?

"Be glad, O people of Zion, rejoice in the LORD your God, for he has given you the autumn rains in righteousness. He sends you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before."

    September Photoshoot

I did a little photo shoot today with my happy baby. Makes me SO wish I had more than a little point and shoot camera, but I know these are pictures I'll treasure forever! He's such a blessing and I LOVE this stage! Of course, I say that every stage :)

Love my Adrian Samuel! He's so so precious :)

    1461 Days

1461 days seems a lot less to me than 4 years. Either way, that's how long I've know my hunky hubby.

4 years ago was my first day working at the Cracker Barrel in Lynchburg (after 2 weeks of trying to get my transfer from the Atlanta location official).  It had been a rough summer for my love life, and obviously that very week I had sworn off relationships for probably the rest of my life. Silly, I know, but I believe that any other barely-19-year old girl would feel the same way.

Just as I walked back into the kitchen, my manager introduced me to Nick (she still takes credit for our relationship...fine with us). I wouldn't say it was "love" at first site (Nick didn't think twice about me) but I was most definitely intrigued. Never in my life had I felt more respected by a man. And good grief, what a man he was!

After work, I rushed onto facebook to look him up. My roommate and I ooohhed an ahhhhed at the manly dorkiness that is Nick. Here's some pics from that album:

Fast-forward 1461 days and we have a precious baby son (who has had a baaaaaaaaaad day - poor sweet teething baby).  I love marriage to Nick and am blessed to have both he and Adrian. Thank you, Lord.
